A place for all kinds of food, crafts and general nerdery
I love comedy. It’s like oxygen to me, it’s that vital to my life. Tonight, I went to see Henning Wehn at the local playhouse with the parents.
If you’ve not heard of Henning, then I include a few youtube videos for your viewing pleasure.
He describes himself as a social commentary maker with blunt comments but a twinkle in his eye. However, most people know him as “that German comedian” which is a tad unfair but ultimately kinda true.
He does hit very close to the mark on a couple of occasions but no more so than any other comedian in this day and age. However, where home-grown comedians reach the boundary and try to back off a little, Henning manages to pass it off as endearing when he puts a cheeky “not a native English speaker” twist on it. For once, the German accent actually softens the blow 😉
As you can imagine, he touches on the subject of the war and various German stereotypes. But if there is something we love in this country , it’s self-deprecation, stereotypes and references to WW2 🙂 so no-one complained 🙂
We had a FANTASTIC night. My mother and I were holding each other up, and even my father was wiping tears from his eyes. The audience was amazing. Given that the last time we saw a performance there, it was the Russian Ballet’s Swan Lake and people were BOOING Von Rothbart like it was some kind of panto, it gives you an idea of how great the night was.
If you get a chance to see him, Mr Wehn is DEFINITELY worth it 😀
If there are any comedians you guys have recently seen, let me know. I always love finding new comedians 🙂
Cheers for now,
